서양에서 시작되고 발전된 현대(modern) 회화는 1970년대에 끝났거나 혹은 종언기에 접어들었고, 우리는 여전히 그 소용돌이 안에 있다. 본고에서는 먼저 19 세기 후반부터 일본에서 어떤 추상 회화가 전개되었는지 살펴보고, 1930 년대 이후로 전개된 일본 전위 회화에 대해 짚어본다. 그 다음으로 ‘종언’을 제대로 받아들인 ‘포스트의 파’세대가 전개해 온 회화를 검증하고, 지금 회화가 처한 상황의 본질에 대한 해명을 시도하고자 한다. 이는 지금 회화의 주제란 무엇인지에 대해 묻는 것이기도 하다. 그리고 타이베이에서 열린 《여성추상전》의 출전 작가들의 작품에 입각하여 회화의 현재 상황에 그들의 시도와 성취가 어떤 의미와 기여를 갖는지에 대해 논한다. 그러한 현대의 회화, 여전히 뜨거운 감자인 이에 대한 논의는 미술사적 언어보다는 현재적, 즉 비평적 언어로서만 가능할 뿐이다.

The modern paintings created and developed by the West ended in the 1970s, or entered the end of life, and we are still in the vortex. First, I will briefly outline what kind of abstract paintings Japan developed from the latter half of the 19th century, and Japanese avant-garde paintings from the 1930s. Next, I will examine the paintings developed by the “Post-Matter” generation who have taken “end of life” seriously, and try to elucidate the essence of the situation where the painting is placed. It is also asking what the subject of painting is now. Then, in line with the works of the exhibitors at the 《?的抽象 The Herstory of Abstraction in East Asia》 Exhibition in Taipei, we will talk about the meaning and contribution of their attempts and achievements to the current state of painting. The words that can speak of such modern paintings, still very hot iron, are nothing but words that are present or critical, apart from the words of art history.
